Animal Rights
Cellbes is committed to animal rights and therefore it is of great importance that the health and well-being of animals are considered in all stages of the manufacturing process. Cellbes’ animal rights policy is based on Svensk Handel’s Animal Welfare Policy. The policy is part of our Supplier Guide, which is sent out and signed by all our suppliers.
All our suppliers must comply with national and international animal rights legislation. This also applies to international agreements such as the Convention of International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES).
Breeders and all parties that handle animals should adhere to the Five Freedoms for Animal Welfare developed by the EU Farm Animal Welfare Council/World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH).
The Five Freedoms are as follows:
- Freedom from hunger and thirst through access to fresh water and a diet that maintains good health and vigor.
- Freedom from discomfort by providing an appropriate environment that includes shelter and a comfortable place to rest.
- Freedom from pain, injury and illness through prevention or rapid diagnosis and treatment.
- Freedom to behave in a natural way by meeting the animal’s need for sufficient space, the right resources and companionship of its own kind.
- Freedom from fear and anxiety by securing conditions and treatments that avoid mental suffering.
We also set the following requirements for materials of animal origin:
- The down and feathers used in Cellbes products must come from birds bred for meat production. The down and feathers in Cellbes products must not come from force-fed birds. The down and feathers must not have been plucked from live birds. All virgin down must come from farms certified according to the Responsible Down Standard (RDS).
- The leather used in Cellbes products must be a waste product from the food industry.
- No real fur may be used.
- Animal hair and wool must not come from animals that have been handled, slaughtered or shorn in a way that could harm them. We seek to choose wool that is certified according to the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS). When using mohair in our products, we require it to be certified according to the Responsible Mohair Standard (RMS)
- Mulesing: The wool must not come from farms that use mulesing, a procedure that is carried out on the sheep’s back to prevent infestation of blue flies.
- Angora: Rabbit fur is not permitted in Cellbes products.
- Materials such as hides, bones, teeth and claws must not come from reptiles. Reptiles include, but are not limited to, alligators, crocodiles, lizards and snakes.
- We do not authorize the use of corals or shells from species listed by CITES (Convention of International Trade in Endangered Species) and IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) on the Red List of Threatened, Critically Endangered or Vulnerable Species. We only use cultured pearls in our production.
- No animal bones or horns are used in our products.
- Materials or ingredients that have been tested on animals are not permitted.
- As we do not use real fur in our products, we have signed up to the Swedish Animal Rights’ fur-free list, which is part of the international Fur Free Alliance (FFA).
